DECADENCE

DECADENCE is inspired by 1920s China. It was a special period of time that was a golden age of fashion in China. Following the overthrow of the Qing dynasty, rapid social changes caused many young people to fall into a state of moral artistic decay. The result was prolonged partying and drinking becoming a cultural norm. This was “the moment before the doom”. Young people seemed not to care but they were fragile and helpless inside. On the other hand, revolution was undergoing. New culture was introduced after Shanghai was colonized by western world. Eastern and western cultures were not like ice and fire but instead there was this harmonic moment of art. Cultures were like parallel lines, they admit and admire each other, this is something I wish to emulate. As we know, all the beauty will have an end. I want my collection to show the peak of that beauty, right before its doom.
